In God’s economy, all that matters is people. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world (that’s you and me) that He gave His only begotten son.” Why did God send his son for us? Maybe He wanted Jesus to construct monuments that would become memorials to God? Maybe he wanted Jesus to refurbish the landscape? Maybe He wanted Jesus to become an entrepreneur and begin a Furniture Company? He’d call it, EVERLASTING FURNITURE! No, I don’t think any of these apply.
So why did He come to earth? “That whosoever….” Whosoever? He came to meet people! Yes! Fishermen, Doctors, Tent makers, Homemakers. He came to meet thieves, tax collectors, prostitutes, adulterers. He came that He might encounter the insane, the demon possessed, the sick, the religious, the powerful, and the weak. He found them in trees, under trees, in the streets, in houses, by the sea shores, in cemeteries, at the synagogues, in fishing boats and at Jacobs well.
What happened when He met them? Would they, “believe in Him”? Boy did they! They dropped nets, water pots and agendas. Wow. Did they believe! If they stole, they gave it back. If they denied him, they repented. If they gave their bodies away before, afterwards it became a living sacrifice. Their boats and nets became His; their houses, livestock, and their most treasured possessions, like an alabaster box. They gave away their lives, credentials, achievements, and heritage. Everything became His.
He loved people and they loved Him. Children sat on His lap. Grown men laid their heads on His chest. Women with issues grabbed the borders of His garment, and even those with no rights to the covenant would cry out, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”
“Would not perish but have eternal life”. He wants people to make it! Where? To a place where they are known as Sons and Daughters of God. What are the implications for a church in Dublin Georgia that is called Christ Chapel? We go to two services, beginning July 20th @ 9:00 and 10:45, all because we can reach more people that way. Or should I say, He can reach more people that way.
All about people
